Remembering Daniel
Read by Guy Mackenzie
Daniel was born on the 27th of November 1980 at St. Mary’s hospital in Manchester, to parents Doug and Margaret Dale. As a child he attended Pownall Hall preparatory school in Wilmslow during the tenure of headmaster Mr. Farmer and later Mr. Meadmore. Sadly, Daniel’s father died in April 1988 when Daniel was 7, and the church service was held at this very church, St. Bartholomew’s. Douglas Dale was later buried at Southern Cemetery Manchester.
As a young man Daniel attended King’s of Macclesfield senior school where he excelled academically and achieved high enough grades to enter Christchurch University Oxford to read modern history.
After graduation Daniel lived and worked in Paris for a year, before moving to London to study Law at BPP. Daniel was always passionate about film however, and instead of becoming a lawyer, went to work as an intern for Independent films where he began as an intern but soon progressed to the role of head of acquisitions and was involved in the development, sale and writing of several major titles including The Mark of Cain, We need to Talk about Kevin, and new town killers, amongst others.
He met his wife Eve in 2017 and they married on the 10th of August 2019 at Christchurch Cathedral in Oxford, and they both revelled in his love of Michelin star restaurants at their wedding reception at Raymond Blanc’s Manoir Quatre Saison in Oxford.
For the next few years Daniel developed his own ideas for screenplays and was successful enough to have major A list actors and directors attached to some of these projects. Daniel was always passionate about the arts, especially literature and his favourite authors were TS Eliot, F Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.
He loved the paintings of Francis Bacon and Lucien Freud and enjoyed listening to an expansive range of music from 70’s soul, Radiohead and The Rolling Stones to hip hop classics by Mobb Deep and Biggie Smalls.
Fine food was one of Daniel’s great loves and he spent a lot of time gleaning inspiration for writing and eating alike from reviews of restaurants written by one of his idols; AA Gil.
Daniel dined in some of the best 3 michelin star restaurants in the world and enjoyed his life to the fullest with his extensive network of close friends. He was a loving husband, a loyal friend and a devoted son who will be deeply missed.
